The Crew begins their 2026 Leagues Cup campaign on Aug. 4 against Atlas FC, the first of Columbus' three group-stage games.
The Crew are coming off a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Inter Miami on Aug. 1. Newly acquired Crew midfielder Brais Mendez scored off a free kick roughly 20 minutes into his MLS debut to tie the game in the 84th minute. Two other Crew players also made their Columbus debuts against Miami: midfielder Lautaro Giaccone in the 72nd minute and defender Brooks Lennon in the 86th minute.

Along with the new faces, the Crew played their first game without midfielder Max Arfsten, whom the Crew is transferring to England's Middlesbrough FC. The Crew on Aug. 3 also agreed to loan winger Nariman Akhundzade to Turkish club Erzurumspor through the 2027 MLS Sprint season.
The Crew will now take a break from MLS play and face three Liga MX teams in Leagues Cup competition. In the 2025 Leagues Cup, the Crew were eliminated in the group stage. They won the tournament in 2024.
Atlas finished sixth in Liga MX last season.
The Crew will advance in the Leagues Cup if they rank in the top four of MLS clubs based on Phase One performance.
