‘Not resigning’: Punjab Congress chief Warring amid infighting in state unit

Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring on Monday asserted that he will not resign from his post, PTI reported.
The comment came after supporters of former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi in recent days shouted slogans against Warring during party events.
Warring told reporters in Bathinda that if the Congress leadership decides to replace him as the state unit chief, he would continue working to strengthen the party. He has held the post since April 2022.
He said that he had “worked wholeheartedly” for the party in the past four years because of which the Congress won seven of Punjab’s 13 Lok Sabha seats in the 2024 general elections.
“Reaching the top is an achievement, but no one remains at the top forever,” The Tribune quoted him as saying.
Meanwhile, Bhupesh Baghel, the Congress leader in charge of Punjab, said that the party leadership was united, the newspaper reported. He added that workers shouting slogans in support of Congress leaders at party events was a positive sign.
On July 1, the Congress leadership announced that it was retaining Warring as the party’s Punjab chief and had named Channi as the chairperson of its campaign committee.
This came ahead of the Assembly elections that are expected to be held in early 2027.
