Carrington suffered the left foot sprain last season while with the Minnesota Lynx, forcing her to miss the rest of the Lynx’s playoff run. After signing a one-year deal with the Sky last offseason, Carrington’s rehab process — which included two surgeries, the second of which removed hardware from her foot — caused her to miss the first 27 games of the season.

Carrington was listed as questionable ahead of Thursday’s matchup against the Sun. The Sky seemingly confirmed Carrington’s return on social media, posting a hype video reading “Nai’s back.”

Carrington started her career with the Sun in 2021 as a second-round draft pick, but had a breakout season in 2024, earning the WNBA’s Most Improved Player and a First Team All-Defensive nod. She was traded to the Dallas Wings the next season, but only spent half the season there before she was acquired by the Lynx.
Prior to the postseason injury, Carrington had earned the reputation as a key sixth player, averaging nearly 10 points and four rebounds off the bench throughout the year.
Carrington’s return comes at a good time for the Sky, who are hovering near the bottom of the WNBA table with a 9-18 record. Injuries to Chicago’s backcourt haven’t helped the team improve its record: Skylar Diggins is week-to-week with a knee injury, while star forward Rickea Jackson is out for the season with a torn ACL. Carrington, as a guard-forward, provides the Sky more flexibility off the bench.
