Angels Begin Fire Sale, Deal 2 Players to Rangers

The Los Angeles Angels made the first big trade of the deadline period Wednesday evening, sending Logan O’Hoppe and Chase Silseth to the Texas Rangers.

In exchange, the Angels received infielder Angel Arredondo from the Rangers.

Trade news: The Texas Rangers are acquiring right-handed reliever Chase Silseth and catcher Logan O’Hoppe from the Los Angeles Angels, sources tell ESPN.

Silseth began his MLB career as a starter for the Angels in 2022, but transitioned into a role in the bullpen last season. He only appeared 10 times in MLB last season, spending most of the year bouncing between MLB and Triple-A, but still managed a 1.64 ERA through 11 innings.

He hasn’t maintained that same number this season, but has still given the Angels 47 solid games in relief. He has a 2.72 ERA on the season, and has struck out 48 batters through 39.2 innings pitched. He has the lowest FIP of his MLB career this season, a mark of 3.42.

O’Hoppe is on the other end of the spectrum from Silseth, as he has gradually regressed following a strong season in 2023. 2026 has been his worst season to date, as he has been the worst defensive catcher in all of MLB this season and has a meager 62 OPS+ through 75 games.

On the year, O’Hoppe has just four home runs and 23 RBIs, posting a career-worst .565 OPS this season.

The Angels declared themselves as sellers for this year’s Aug. 3 deadline with this trade, and are sure to make more moves before the window shuts Monday.

Who Did the Angels Get in Return for Logan O’Hoppe and Chase Silseth?

Arredondo, 19, doesn’t rank in the Rangers’ Top 30 prospects on MLB.com, but is having a solid 2026 season in Class-A.

A former Mexican League professional, Arredondo signed a minor league deal with the Rangers before the 2024 season, posting a .674 OPS with one homer during his first Arizona Complex League campaign. He split last season between the ACL and Class-A, posting a .813 OPS in the ACL before recording just one hit through six games with Class-A Hickory.

Arredondo has spent all of 2026 in Class-A, playing 87 games and posting a .769 OPS with eight homers and 47 RBIs.

The Angels are clearly building for the future with this move, pointing towards a minor rebuild as they aim to return to the postseason.
