Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell lead Fever to win after Aliyah Boston injury: Likes, dislikes

The Indiana Fever maintained their pre-All-Star break momentum, pulling away for a 105-95 win over the Seattle Storm on Tuesday. It’s the Fever’s fourth straight 100-point game, the longest streak in WNBA history, and their 12th game overall with 100-plus points — the most in a single season.

LIKES
‘Run, Sophie, run’
The Fever got off to a blistering start, building a 20-point lead early in the second quarter. The first-quarter catalyst: Sophie Cunningham. She came off the bench and immediately caught fire, racking up 11 points with three 3s on her first three attempts from behind the arc. Cunningham was held scoreless in the second half, but those 11 points were her most in a first half this season.
Monique Billings continues upward trend
The veteran forward has looked really good the past few games and she stepped up in a big way Tuesday. She was active early off a few set plays with Caitlin Clark and made her presence felt as a scorer and a rebounder. Billings logged eight points and five boards in 8:44 in the first quarter with Aliyah Boston on the bench with two early fouls, then maintained that performance into the second quarter after Boston had to be helped to the locker room with a right lower leg injury.
Billings finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Caitlin Clark maintains pre-All-Star momentum
Freed of that pesky minutes restriction, Clark played a full game vs. Seattle and put on an absolute show: 32 points, seven assists, four rebounds, a block and a steal in more than 33 minutes.
Clark carried Indiana through the third quarter, accounting for 16 of the team’s 18 points. She had zero second-half turnovers.
Fourth-quarter Kelsey
Kelsey Mitchell caught fire in the fourth. Goodness. She started heating up with back-to-back 3s, then dished an assist to Myisha Hines-Allen as the Fever lead grew to 10. When Seattle whittled it back to single digits, Mitchell drained a couple free throws and swerved around the defense for an easy layup that pushed the lead to 93-82 with 4:20 left.
Mitchell finished with 28 points. It was her 12th straight game with 20-plus points, tied for the third-longest streak in WNBA history.

Free-throw shooting
The Fever went 26-for-26 at the free-throw line. That's very good.
DISLIKES
Aliyah Boston goes down
Already dealing with a right lower leg injury that’s caused her to miss three games this season, the all-star center had to be helped off the floor late in the second quarter after tripping over Flau’jae Johnson’s foot.
Boston went directly to the locker room. She was listed as questionable for the remainder of the game, but did not return, spending it on the bench.
Another night, another blown lead
Not going to dwell on this for too long, because it was more encouraging to see how the Fever responded to the Storm’s runs but a 20-point blown lead still ain’t great. Part of that is the result of Seattle being much better than its record indicates. And part of it was an offensive cold spell seeping into the defensive end for the Fever.
