‘This Isn’t Going To Work’ — NFL World Brings Up Dianna Russini After Mike Vrabel Arrives at Press Conference With Puppy

Mike Vrabel brought a friend with him to the podium on Friday. Speaking with reporters, the New England Patriots head coach brought a puppy to promote Pet Adoption Day, an initiative supported by the Kraft family and the Patriots. However, even Vrabel’s appearance with the puppy did not distract fans from the scandal involving him and Dianna Russini.

Vrabel was at the center of the controversy when pictures emerged of him and Russini at a resort in Sedona, Arizona, with both married to other people. As the scandal grew large, Vrabel missed the final day of the 2026 draft to seek counseling, while Russini resigned from her role at The Athletic.

Things have calmed down in the months after, but with the NFL season getting close and Vrabel back in the spotlight, fans haven’t stopped talking about the scandal. And when Vrabel appeared with the puppy, the NFL World was quick to point out that it wasn’t going to distract them.

YouTuber Five Points Vids was quick to react on his account, writing, “NEXT YOU BRING UP THE KIDS”. He jokingly hinted at how this was a method for Vrabel to cover himself from getting asked tough questions.

One user on X wrote, “Using a puppy as a shield to deflect from your scandal is an interesting strategy. The dog is adorable though.”

Another added, “Awwwee is her name Dianna?” asking about the puppy’s name.

An account named ‘Outlaw Raider’ asked, “Is that Dianna Russini’s dog?”

One account shared a GIF of an elephant in the room to urge Vrabel to address the main questions everyone has in mind related to his alleged relationship with Russini.

A user named ‘Jessie’ simply wrote, “This isn’t gonna work, Mike,” indicating how bringing a puppy to the press conference won’t silence the noise around him.

Another user added, “This is the oldest trick in the book.”

NYJ Matt, who is a New York Jets season ticket holder, went hard at Vrabel and said, “Hey guys here’s a puppy for you to look at so you forget I [allegedly] cheated on my wife with a national reporter.”

NFL analyst Thomas R. Peterson wrote, “Patriots PR staff working overtime, I see. Meet their new puppy, Dianna.”

Even with training camp starting, the NFL World won’t let Vrabel forget the scandal that dominated the offseason. As the head coach preaches to his players to avoid distractions from the outside, he’ll also address questions about his own personal life.

The Patriots will hope that this doesn’t affect their season. After a Super Bowl run, the team will hope to go one step further in 2026, opening the season with a rematch against the Seattle Seahawks.
