The Creighton product efficiently averaged 17.3 points per game while helping the Lakers advance to the Semifinals of the event. As a result, the Lakers signed Kaluma to a two-way contract ahead of the 2026-27 event.
Unfortunately for 6-foot-5 rookie guard Peter Suder, the Lakers were forced to waive him to make room for Kaluma.
“The Coachella Valley Lakers would welcome Peter Suder to their roster, a source familiar with the organization told ESPN, but understand that Suder will explore his options,” ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reported on X/Twitter Tuesday. “The Lakers waived Suder from his 2-way deal to be able to sign Arthur Kaluma to a 2-way after Vegas.”
Suder, who went undrafted this summer, entered the professional ranks with glaring offensive weaknesses. When the Miami (Ohio) product isn’t lighting it up from beyond the arc in spot-up shooting situations, he’s far from a high-level threat on that end of the floor due to his inability to create space and take defenders off the dribble.
The 22-year-old isn’t a game-changing defender, either, making it easy to see why the Lakers had no problem moving on from him in late July. Suder averaged 5.3 points per game on 33.3% field goal shooting and 22.2% three-point shooting in six Summer League games.
Suder’s NBA journey is far from finished yet, though, as he could soon find his footing with a different franchise.
