Circle the Bay, Sunset Bay runs coming in August

· Yahoo Sports

The South Coast Running Club has two races in August, including the annual Circle the Bay on Aug. 8.

The Circle the Bay takes runners and walkers around the waters of the bay, starting and ending at Ferry Road Park in North Bend. Participants can run the entire race themselves or as part of three-person relay teams.

The walk starts at 6:30 a.m. and the run at 8 a.m.

The route takes participants through North Bend and Coos Bay along U.S. Highway 101 and then through the Eastside district of Coos Bay on the Coos River Highway before returning to the start with a long stretch along East Bay Drive and a finishing trek across the McCullough Bridge.

The entry fee is $75 for individuals and $225 for three-person teams and includes a post-race lunch in the park.

Sunset Bay Trail Run

The second August run is the annual Sunset Bay Trail Run on Saturday, Aug. 29.

That event includes a half-marathon, a 15-kilometer run, a 4-mile run and a half-mile kids run. The 4-mile includes the scenic trail linking Sunset Bay State Park and Shore Acres State Park. The longer runs add a trip through Cape Arago State Park and a challenging trek over a pack trail (the half-marathon traverses the pack trail in both directions).

The half-marathon starts at 8:45 a.m., with the kids run on the beach at 9:15 a.m. and the 4-mile and 15K starting at 9:30.

The entry fee for people who sign up early is $15 for members of the South Coast Running Club and $25 for non-members. The fee increases by $5 on race day. The fee for all students is $5.
