“I think if we’ve learned anything today, it is that no matter how long you’ve played the game, you can still unintentionally break a rule in golf, and it doesn’t mean you were trying to cheat….just saying….for no reason at all…,” said Spiranac on X.
These statements were made regarding Bryson DeChambeau, who received a two-shot penalty during the 2026 Open Championship when he stepped on the tall grass in the rough during a practice swing, thus improving his lie in violation of Rule 8.1.
