One week after the former two-division champion suffered a brutal 69-second injury loss in his comeback bout at UFC 329, UFC CEO Dana White revealed some much-awaited details of McGregor's injury. Speaking Saturday night at UFC Oklahoma City's post-fight press conference, White confirmed McGregor suffered an ACL injury in his right knee and is set to undergo surgery.

White also threw cold water over the idea of even beginning to think about McGregor's next bout, which may potentially be the Irishman's last in the UFC.

"His knee's f***ed up," White said.

"He's having knee surgery. That's it. I mean, the Conor McGregor discussion isn't even worth talking about. He's got to have knee surgery. He's going to have to go through physical therapy. It's all going to take time. And then when the doctor says you can start hardcore training again, then we start talking about Conor McGregor again."

McGregor, 38, lost his rematch against Max Holloway earlier this month after he appeared to injure his knee after missing a flying switch kick in the opening seconds of his first bout since 2021. The fight ultimately lasted just 69 seconds, with Holloway winning by TKO and McGregor failing to land a single significant strike.

A former featherweight and lightweight champion, McGregor entered UFC 329 with two fights remaining on his UFC contract and was expected to return again sometime in early 2027. Ahead of UFC 329, McGregor told Uncrowned that he and promotional officials had already worked out a timeline for both bouts, with April 2027 being the target date for his return after the Holloway rematch. McGregor also confirmed an interest in exploring free agency after the completion of his contract.

In the days since his disappointing loss, McGregor has confirmed his upcoming surgery, said he still intends to complete the final fight of his UFC contract — although likely at a later date now — and lobbied for his UFC 329 setback to be overturned into a no contest.
