The Los Angeles Dodgers have one of the best players in MLB history in Shohei Ohtani tearing it up this season. He's been one of the best hitters and one of the best pitchers in baseball.
While he is a bona fide lock to win the NL MVP this season for his combination of pitching and hitting, what about his Cy Young chances?
It might be hard to win the award, but Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report is still predicting that Ohtani will finish in the top five in Cy Young voting this season, which would be an incredible accomplishment for the Dodgers' superstar.
Shohei Ohtani predicted to finish top-five in Cy Young voting
"Los Angeles Dodgers: Shohei Ohtani finishes top-five in NL Cy Young voting," Reuter predicts. "He might not overtake Jacob Misiorowski for the hardware, but a top-five finish in Cy Young voting would make it an all-time great individual season."
Ohtani winning the Cy Young award this season would be very difficult to accomplish. The reason is simple: he won't have the innings needed to win this award.
Even though Milwaukee Brewers ace Jacob Misiorowski, Cincinnati Reds ace Chase Burns, and Philadelphia Phillies ace Zack Wheeler are all going to have lower innings counts, they should all finish with more than Ohtani.
The Dodgers' two-way superstar has made 14 starts by the All-Star break, and he has a 1.79 ERA with an 8-2 record and 95 strikeouts in 85.2 innings pitched.

There's no denying he's been one of the best pitchers in the sport, and with how great he's been, a top-five finish in the Cy Young race wouldn't be a huge surprise.
But, with Cristopher Sanchez, Chris Sale, Burns, Wheeler, and Misiorowski all deserving of top Cy Young votes, this prediction coming true would be a testament to how great Ohtani has been this season.
While it might not seem like a bold prediction for Ohtani to simply finish top-five in Cy Young voting, he's only done it one other time during his career, back in 2022, but he had an OPS of .875, well below his .942 OPS this season.
A typical elite Ohtani hitting season paired with a top-five Cy Young season would be one of the best years from any player in MLB history. That's what Reuter is predicting will happen, and while it's a bold prediction, there's a real chance it could come true.
