Revamped ASUN releases 2027 conference basketball schedule

The ASUN women's college basketball schedule released on July 16 provides the First Coast with a blockbuster start: A River City Rumble game.

The University of North Florida and Jacksonville University will open the conference season at JU's Swisher Gym on Jan. 9, the first time they have played in the first ASUN game since Jan. 6, 2018, at UNF.
The two teams have opened their conference season four times, splitting 2-2. The Dolphins have won the last two, in 2018 and 2016.
The subplot to the opener is that the last time the two teams played, on Feb. 27 at Swisher Gym, a brawl broke out in which enough JU players left the bench, triggering an automatic ejection, that the Dolphins finished the final 76 seconds of a 79-71 victory with four on the floor.
ASUN player of the year Priscilla Williams, Comari Mitchell and Aniah Smith were suspended for the first ASUN Tournament game the following week, as was Dezuray McGill of UNF.
The Dolphins (24-7, 13-5) went on to win the tournament for their first ASUN title since 2017. Coach Special Jennings was rewarded with a new contract.
UNF finished the season 9-21 overall and 4-14 in the conference.
The second River City Rumble game at UNF will be Feb. 6 at North Florida. The two teams will play 14 other conference games under the new eight-team ASUN with Stetson, Florida Gulf Coast, West Florida, Queens, Bellarmine and Lipscomb.
The regular season will end with the ASUN Tournament at Jacksonville's VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena, with dates to be determined.

ASUN men's basketball: JU, UNF open at home
The ASUN men's basketball schedule begins on Jan. 7 with UNF playing host to Bellarmine and JU to Lipscomb.
The River City Rumble games will be Jan. 23 at JU and Feb. 20 at UNF.
Both teams are coming off 20-loss seasons but both coaches, JU's Jordan Mincy and UNF's Bobby Kennen are returning. The Dolphins were 12-20 overall and 7-11 in the conference, and the Ospreys 7-25 overall and 5-13 in the conference.
