The Ducks had another great season in 2025, going 8-1 in the Big Ten and 13-2 overall. Oregon's only loss in Big Ten play is against Indiana, they're 17-1 overall in the conference.
However, the Ducks were blown out by Big Ten foes Indiana and Ohio State in the College Football Playoff. Head coach Dan Lanning will need to figure out a way to get his guys to play better in the CFP this year if they hope to win a national championship.
So where does Oregon rank as a Big Ten program?
Paul Meyerberg of USA Today ranked the Ducks as the No. 3 program in the conference behind Ohio State and Indiana.
"Probably the best program in the Bowl Subdivision without a national championship to its name, Oregon played for a pair during the Bowl Championship Series era and then advanced to last year’s semifinals before losing to Indiana," he wrote.
"The Ducks are 46-8 under coach Dan Lanning and have blended into the Big Ten seamlessly with an unbeaten run to the conference title in their first year and an 8-1 record in 2025."
There's obviously some recency bias at play here, as Michigan was ranked No. 4 despite winning the national championship three years ago.
Still, the Ducks are better poised to compete for their first national championship this year than the Wolverines.
Lanning will face pressure to win a national championship this season with quarterback Dante Moore returning to play with a talented group of receivers and running backs.
On defense, the Ducks might have the best roster since Lanning arrived in Eugene.
Oregon is a program that should be feared in the regular season, but has not been able to find that extra gear in the postseason that would make them an elite program.
If Lanning can win a national championship this season, they'd certainly climb the rankings, though Indiana and Ohio State should be ahead of them going into the fall.
