The Los Angeles Lakers have prioritized strengthening their wing depth by any means necessary lately, and that trend continued on Monday.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Lakers signed Bronny James’ 25-year-old history-making high school teammate (he became the highest-rated in Stanford history in 2020 after completing his senior season at Sierra Canyon alongside James).

“Free agent forward Ziaire Williams has agreed on a one-year, $3 million deal to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers,” Charania wrote Monday.

“Lakers reach a deal with Williams and CAA Co-Head of Basketball Aaron Mintz to address their wing depth -- and LA continues to strongly pursue Jonathan Kuminga as a potential starting forward, sources tell ESPN.”

While Williams is still finding his footing in the big leagues, it isn’t outlandish to state he’s moving in the right direction. The 24-year-old has made encouraging strides as a transition finisher, half-court shot creator, perimeter shooter, and active defender.

Williams averaged 10.2 points and 1.4 steals per game with the Nets last season, shooting 42.5%% from the field and a career-best 34.3% from three (which isn’t great, but it proves he’s on an upward trajectory in that aspect of his game).

The Lancaster, California, native can only improve here, and playing alongside a high-IQ, methodical point guard like Luka Doncic should help take his development to the next level if things go according to plan.
