Scottie Scheffler’s remarkable streak came to an end Friday at the Genesis Scottish Open, where the world’s No. 1 golfer missed the cut for the first time in nearly four years.

Scheffler’s previous missed cut came at the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship, ending a run that lasted 1,428 days and spanned 78 consecutive PGA Tour events. The streak was the longest active cut streak on tour.

His 78-event streak ranks as the fifth longest in PGA Tour history, trailing only Tiger Woods (142 from 1998-2005), Byron Nelson (113 from 1941-48), Jack Nicklaus (105 from 1970-76) and Hale Irwin (86 from 1975-78).

Despite the disappointing finish in Scotland, Scheffler now shifts his focus to next week’s Open Championship at Royal Birkdale in Southport, England, the final major championship of the season.

Scheffler enters the tournament as the defending Open champion after capturing the Claret Jug last year at Royal Portrush. The early exit at the Scottish Open also gives him several additional days to familiarize himself with Royal Birkdale and fine-tune his game before attempting to defend his title.
