Borussia Dortmund winger Karim Adeyemi appears on the verge of a move to Spanish champions Barcelona after the Bundesliga side said he had been released from pre-season obligations to talk with another club.

German broadcaster Sky and newspaper Bild had earlier reported that Adeyemi's move to Barcelona is all but done.

They said Dortmund and the Catalans coached by former Germany boss Hansi Flick had agreed a fee of €22 million ($25 million) plus €7 million in bonuses. His deal would be until 2031.

"Karim Adeyemi and Kjell Wätjen will not be participating in today's performance testing. Both players have been granted time off to hold talks with other clubs," Dortmund said on X as their players gathered for the start of pre-season.

The 24-year-old Adeyemi, whose contract at Dortmund runs until 2027, had previously informed the club of his desire to leave.

The speedy winger joined Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg four years ago.

Flick first called him up to the Germany squad in September 2021. Adeyemi has since played 11 internationals but was overlooked by Julian Nagelsmann at the current World Cup.

In his four years at Dortmund, Adeyemi has made 146 competitive appearances and scored 36 goals, including seven last season.

Adeyemi will face stiff competition at the Spanish champions alongside superstar Lamine Yamal and recently signed England winger Anthony Gordon.

His apparent arrival at the Nou Camp spells more bad news for fellow left winger Marcus Rashford, who was on loan at Barcelona from Manchester United last season and had hoped to stay, only for the club to recruit his England rival Gordon and now seemingly Adeyemi.
