Veteran pitcher Brandon Woodruff was originally placed on the 15-day Injured List, but as of Sunday, July 12, the team transferred him to the 60-day IL.
Milwaukee has had far too many injuries to starting pitchers, but Brewers fans will be thrilled to know Coleman Crow has been reinstated from the 15-Day IL and has been optioned to Triple-A Nashville.
Elsewhere, the Brewers acquired infielder Braden Shewmake from the Houston Astros for cash. In the corresponding move, utility man Greg Jones has been designated for assignment.
Shewmake starts in Brewers debutManager Pat Murphy isn't messing around as the team's newest acquisition is batting ninth on Sunday. Shewmake is set to play third base, a position the Brewers had a minor need for now that David Hamilton is out of action.
Cooper Pratt earned a day off while Joey Ortiz is set to take over for him at shortstop. For what it's worth, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Curt Hogg revealed minor-league star Jett Williams likely would've been called up, had he not been dealing with a minor wrist injury.
It's unknown how long Shewmake will be at the major-league level, but he's got a chance to prove himself and make an immediate impact.
Brewers await Woodruff's statusHogg added, "The Brewers moved Brandon Woodruff to the 60-day IL but are still awaiting official word on next steps after Woodruff saw Dr. Keith Meister. That is expected to come after the break."
Clearly, things aren't looking too good for them to immediately transfer him prior to the second opinion. Remember, Dr. Keith Meister performed Woodruff's first major surgery back in 2023, one that kept him out for well over a season. Knowing his age and where he's at in his career, there's a real possibility Big Woo could have pitched his final game for the Brewers.
Jones gets DFA'dJones, 28, was hitting .087 in his 23 at-bats with the Brewers this season. He had just two hits, but managed to get one RBI and stolen base.
Throughout his three-year big league career, Jones has just 30 at-bats. He's appeared in 21 games, 12 of which came in 2026 with the Brewers. Now that Shewmake has been acquired, the team simply decided to move on from the North Carolina native.
