LAS VEGAS — Minutes after speaking at length to South Florida media Friday about how his time with the Miami Heat will be remembered with fond memories, former Heat guard Tyler Herro left Thomas & Mack Center offering only, “My only comment is no comment.”

Between his interview with the team’s beat writers and that exit, word came out about an altercation between Herro and former Heat teammate Bam Adebayo earlier in the day at the hotel that several teams are utilizing as a practice facility during the Las Vegas NBA Summer League.

An NBA source confirmed the incident to the Sun Sentinel. Herro left the arena hastily with his girlfriend at his side through a rear, players-only entrance.

According to ESPN, “Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro got into a physical altercation in Las Vegas on Friday in which Adebayo struck Herro. The altercation occurred at a practice court in a Las Vegas hotel this morning, sources said — starting when Adebayo approached Herro about comments the guard made critiquing the center on social media after their seven-year run in Miami ended.”

In the wake of Herro being dealt to the Milwaukee Bucks, Herro posted on social media a listing of how poorly Adebayo ranked in one shooting metric, with other comments surfacing from a private Herro chat about Adebayo’s offensive inefficiencies in regard to the maximum contract extension Adebayo received from the Heat, a three-year agreement that begins this coming season.

According to The Athletic, “The incident took place at a gym inside the Resorts World Casino in front of Herro’s AAU team. According to multiple sources who witnessed the incident and were granted anonymity to discuss a sensitive matter, Adebayo walked onto the courts and Herro said something to him. Adebayo proceeded to approach Herro and, without hesitation, punch him. Herro’s AAU coach confronted Adebayo, and Herro yelled at his former teammate while being escorted out by security personnel. Both players left the scene on their own.”

Of the incident, the Heat said, “We are aware, but not commenting.“

Asked about his social-media posts, Herro said earlier during his interview with two Heat beat writers, “You’ve seen it.” Asked about those who were unsure about how those posted should have been translated, Herro added, “I don’t know either. I don’t know either.”

Adebayo has been working out with the Heat in Las Vegas, spending time with teammates Nikola Jovic, Davion Mitchell and Bobby Portis, who was acquired by the Heat in the trade that brought in Giannis Antetokounmpo and sent out Herro.

While the Heat moved forward with the Adebayo extension as soon as Adebayo became eligible, the team bypassed an extension for Herro during an extension window in October and then dealt Herro as another extension window opened on July 1.

During his courtside interview with South Florida media before the report of the incident surfaced, Herro spoke of the level of respect for his Heat tenure, asked if he was properly appreciated.

“You know what? I think so,” he said. “Because, if you, like, I’m on Twitter, but if you take away Twitter, I’ve never got hate in the city, ever. I’ve been in Miami seven years. Every time I go in the public, people ask me for pictures. People, you know, like, they’re cool to me. No one’s ever hated on me in the city that I’ve witnessed or been a part of.

“Obviously, they’ll talk and do the things on Twitter, but that’s Twitter. I feel appreciated by the people that matter.”
