It was the latest in a string of brilliant performances from the Aussies who chased down England’s total of 150 with almost three overs to spare after winning the toss and electing to field.

The run chase was anchored by a magnificent 100-run partnership between Beth Mooney (64 off 49 balls) and Phoebe Litchfield (48 off 35 balls), who came together after hard hitting opener Georgia Voll was bowled in the second over.

The win saw Sophie Molineux lift her World Cup trophy as Australian captain since taking over from the now-retired Alyssa Healy in February.

“The girls have played with freedom, they’ve been brave,” Molineux said after the Final.

“We can take so many positives away from this tournament.”

The win delivers the first major title for the Aussies in either the 50 or 20-over formats since the 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, something not lost on the playing group according to veteran Beth Mooney.

“Itvs been pretty well documented, we didn’t quite make it this far in the last two ICC events,” Mooney admitted, before paying tribute to the team’s new captain.

“Soph’s been amazing, she’s just calm and composed and doesn’t look too flustered… she’s put her own spin on the captaincy and been a great leader.”
