ATLANTA — It was the Braves that were the ones providing the offensive fireworks in the series opener on Friday night.

The home side crossed all five of their runs on four home runs as the Mets could not punch completely back in a 5-3 loss in the series opener.
The Mets will be looking to answer back in the second game of the series at 8:08 p.m. on Saturday night at Truist Park.
The Mets enter the game at their low point of the season at 36-52, while the Braves lead the division with a 51-35 mark.
One of the lone highlights of the opener was Juan Soto, who tagged a two-run home run in the third inning - his 18th blast of the season. Bo Bichette added an RBI single in the top of the ninth inning. But as the go-ahead run at the plate in the frame, Francisco Lindor grounded out to second base to end the game.
The Mets dropped the game despite outhitting the Braves, 10-5.

The Mets will have a difficult task in front of them as they take on Braves left-hander Chris Sale.
The nine-time All-Star and 2024 NL Cy Young winner is having another strong season for the Braves. He enters his 16th start of the season with an 8-6 record, 2.10 ERA and 109 strikeouts in 90 innings. He struck out 10 and allowed one earned run (two total) on eight hits and one walk across six innings last time out against the Giants.
The Mets will have their own left-hander on the mound as Sean Manaea is set to make his fifth start and 19th appearance this season. The veteran finished one out away from a quality start last time out, allowing two earned runs on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts in 5⅔ innings. Francisco Lindor committed an error on the potential final out of the sixth and Manaea could not finish the frame.
