PFF sees one hurdle separating Jaguars' Trevor Lawrence from NFL's best
· Yahoo Sports
Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence had arguably the best season of his career in 2025, and all indications are so far pointing to another banner year in 2026. He has cemented his status as one of the league's better quarterbacks, but is he good enough to qualify as one of the truly elite?
Pro Football Focus (PFF) has ranked all 32 starters going into the 2026 season, and Lawrence came in at No. 11. While PFF writers Dalton Wasserman and Max Chadwick acknowledged how good Lawrence was last year, they argued there is still one thing holding him back: turnovers.

Throughout his career, Lawrence has been a gunslinger in every sense of the word. Since entering the NFL in 2021, he ranks sixth with 127 regular-season big-time throws. However, his 107 turnover-worthy plays over that span are one shy of the NFL lead. Lawrence must continue to eliminate spurts of reckless play to vault himself into the league’s elite tier.
As noted by PFF, it took some time for Lawrence to learn head coach Liam Coen's new offensive scheme, but once he got there, he never looked back. As PFF pointed out, in the final four weeks, he ranked "second in the NFL in PFF passing grade (93.7) while recording 15 big-time throws and just two turnover-worthy plays."
Overall, he ended the season with 4,214 passing yards, 390 rushing yards, including the postseason, and 41 total touchdowns. He ranked sixth in passing yards and fifth in passing touchdowns.
In the second half of the season in particular, Lawrence proved he is capable of playing at an elite level. The issues with turnovers could point more to a problem with efficiency and consistency than ability; in other words, if Lawrence can pair his explosive talent with the consistency Coen has repeatedly been emphasizing throughout the offseason, there may not be much keeping him outside the NFL's elite quarterbacks for long.
