What does his summer scouting report look like? Let's talk about it.
- Height: 6'4"
- Weight: 230 lbs
- Recruiting rank: Three-star recruit, no. 64 quarterback nationally in 2022
- Hometown: Henderson, Nevada
- Games watched: Illinois, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oregon, UCLA
Strengths:
- Led Big Ten in passing yards in 2025 (3,711)
- One of the prettiest deep balls in the country
- NFL-ready frame, can take hits and finish his throw through contact
- Very quick release
- Plus arm. Would not classify as top-end, but can make 90% of throws
Weaknesses:
- Bailed out quite often last season with dropped interceptions; still had 10 in total
- Stares down first read too long, struggles to work through progressions
- Struggles to climb pocket, gets the happy feet when pocket collapses
- Limited upside as a rusher
Jayden Maiava has tools that will easily translate to the NFL, but his awareness and decision-making limit his upside. Still, he would be a very intriguing player to serve as a backup down the line thanks to his impressive frame and solid arm. Maiava currently has a fifth-round grade and could serve as a QB2 in the future.
