Kaizer Chiefs transfer news: Ribeiro, Dlamini, Da Cruz, Mabasa, Mayo
· The South African

Kaizer Chiefs officially began a new chapter on Wednesday as new head coach Fernando Da Cruz took charge of the club’s first pre-season training session.
The French-Portuguese coach replaces Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze, who were in charge on an interim basis, and now faces the task of rebuilding Amakhosi into genuine title contenders.

Speaking for the first time since his appointment, Da Cruz said he was honoured to lead one of Africa’s biggest clubs and is determined to restore a winning culture at Naturena.
“I’m very happy to be here. The Club has always held a special place in my heart, and I’ve kept a close eye on its journey over the past two years. Kaizer Chiefs is a massive institution with passionate supporters and a proud history.
“My focus now is on building a strong connection with the players, instilling a winning mentality, and working together to achieve the success our fans deserve. The journey ahead will demand hard work and unity, but I’m confident we will rise to the challenge,” Da Cruz told the club’s media.
Kaizer Chiefs to go into the market this transfer window
While the players have returned to training, Chiefs’ transfer business is only beginning to gather momentum.
The club has so far confirmed the signing of defender Thabo Moloisane, but more arrivals are expected before the start of the new Betway Premiership season.
One player linked with a move to Naturena is former Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa. The experienced forward became a free agent after Stellenbosch FC opted against making his loan move permanent, opening the door for interested clubs.
Kaizer Chiefs’ interest, however, could depend on the future of Khanyisa Mayo. Reports suggest the Glamour Boys are working on a permanent deal for the Bafana Bafana striker, and securing his signature would likely reduce the need to pursue Mabasa.
Chiefs currently have Mayo, Flávio Silva, Etiosa Ighodaro, Ashley du Preez and Tashreeq Morris among their attacking options. Although Du Preez and Morris have both been linked with possible exits,
Silva’s impressive performances last season mean the club may prioritise strengthening other areas of the squad.
Which players should Chiefs bring in?
Creativity in midfield is another department Chiefs are looking to reinforce. Orlando Pirates midfielder Kabelo Dlamini remains a reported target should the Buccaneers fail to extend his contract.
Perhaps the most eye-catching name linked with Amakhosi is former Mamelodi Sundowns playmaker Lucas Ribeiro. The Brazilian is available as a free agent after leaving Spanish side Cultural Leonesa in May, and his arrival would undoubtedly rank among the biggest transfers of the current window if Chiefs were able to pull off the deal.
With Da Cruz now at the helm, Chiefs are expected to accelerate their recruitment as they prepare for what they hope will be a vastly improved campaign.
