The 2026 NFL season will feature several new-look teams vying to win the Super Bowl, and while much attention will be placed on the superstar players leading those charges, head coaches will also greatly impact the title race.
The Seattle Seahawks have reason to like their chances to repeat as Super Bowl champions in 2026, not only because of the strength of their roster, highlighted by their star-filled defense, but also because of the leadership of coach Mike Macdonald.

According to Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport in his power ranking of the top 10 head coaches in the NFL, coach Macdonald was ranked as the fourth-best coach in the league.
“When Macdonald was hired at 36, he was the youngest head coach in the NFL,” Davenport said. “He's one of the league's best defensive minds, and the future is wildly bright for both coach and team.”
Macdonald orchestrated the Seahawks’ blistering opposition as the team’s defensive play-caller last season. Thanks to his schematics, Seattle allowed the fewest points per game to opponents last season with 17.2 PPG, and the third-fewest rushing yards to opposing ground games with 91.9 PPG. Macdonald became the first head coach to win the Super Bowl as the primary defensive play-caller for his team.
The eye test was a testament to just how great Macdonald’s play-calling was, as Seattle’s defense overwhelmed opposing offenses with blitz schemes. He got the most out of his players in all three phases of the field, including his brilliant secondary that was also exceptional against the pass.
Given all of his contributions, as well as the winning culture that he has cemented in Seattle, Macdonald surely is among the best coaches in the league, and will have the chance to get the better of the other 31 NFL head coaches next season with another Vince Lombardi Trophy added to his resume.
