The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has reminded older persons’ grant beneficiaries of an important payment date for July. According to the agency’s latest schedule, payments for the Older Persons’ Grant will begin on Thursday, 2 July.

SASSA encourages beneficiaries to plan accordingly and avoid unnecessary queues by checking their balances before visiting pay points or retailers. The agency continues to urge recipients to be patient during the payment period, noting that funds are loaded systematically throughout the month.

SASSA self-service options available

In its notice, SASSA highlighted its e-Life Certification platform as a convenient alternative to in-person verification. “e-Life Certification is a self-service digital platform that allows beneficiaries to complete their life certification from the comfort of their homes,” the agency said.

The platform is accessible through the SASSA Online Services Portal and uses secure biometric verification through the electronic Know Your Client (eKYC) system. SASSA said beneficiaries with the necessary means are encouraged to make use of the portal instead of visiting offices in person.

What beneficiaries should know

SASSA reiterated its commitment to efficient grant administration, stating it remains focused on “paying the right social grant, to the right person, at the right time and place.”

Beneficiaries who experience payment delays or discrepancies are advised to contact SASSA directly through its official communication channels rather than relying on unverified information shared on social media. The agency has previously flagged scam attempts targeting grant recipients and continues to warn beneficiaries to be cautious of fraudulent messages claiming to be from SASSA.

Older persons relying on the grant as their primary source of income are reminded to keep their personal and banking details updated to avoid processing delays. SASSA’s payment calendar for the month outlines staggered dates across different grant categories to manage system capacity and reduce congestion at pay points.

Beneficiaries are advised to follow official SASSA platforms for further updates on their specific payment status.
