On Monday, their incredible 2027 class got even better as they gained the commitment of five-star defensive lineman Markus Fakatou.
Fakatou elevates the Buckeyes' 2027 defensive line to a whole new level, continuing the unbelievable recruiting prowess that Day and his staff have developed.
Monday's Buckeye Breakdown Podcast opens with a long discussion about the state of the Buckeyes' recruiting efforts and how they are balancing the difference between recruiting great high school talent and recruiting in the transfer portal.
It is a balance that is tough to strike, but the Buckeyes are finding their way. The best part about what they have done this offseason is that they addressed their biggest needs on both sides of the ball. They invested heavily in the line of scrimmage through both the portal and high school recruiting.
This led the conversation to the current iteration of the Buckeyes and what their team looks like heading into the 2026-27 season.
Ohio State Buckeyes Land MAJOR Recruit | Most Improved Position | Position with most to ProveThe Ohio State Buckeyes stay red hot on the recruiting trail as they landed another five-star defensive lineman, which makes two in this recruiting cycle. Th...The Buckeyes had two position groups that stand out as the most improved this offseason. "Improved" is very broad in this sense. Each group could have added players back from injury, through the portal, or through the freshman class.
For Kevin, that group is by and large the defensive line. The Buckeyes' defensive line added three major transfer portal additions. Qua Russaw and James Smith are the transfers from Alabama, and John Walker hails from UCF.
Each of those three will be tasked with being space eaters in the middle of the Buckeyes' defense.
On offense, the most improved group is a different one: the running backs. The running back room gets its two young superstars back, but this time, they are healthy. Both Isaiah West and Bo Jackson missed Spring Ball because of shoulder operations, and they will come into 2026 fresh and ready.
Monday's show wrapped with a discussion about the position groups that need to prove the most next year. The final two that we settled on were the defensive back room on defense and the wide receiver room on offense.
The show ended with one final fun discussion that you will have to listen to to know. The podcast is back next week after the 4th of July.
