The week of June 21-27 was full of high school softball action featuring teams from the Ames area.

Ames put together an impressive 7-0 week, Gilbert defeated Clarinda at Earlham and Ballard knocked off Class 4A No. 14 Boone. Nevada earned a victory over South Tama County, Roland-Story defeated Greene County and West Marshall and lost to 2A No. 1 Grand View Christian in Heart of Iowa Conference play, Collins-Maxwell went a perfect 3-0 during the week and Colo-NESCO suffered four losses.

There were some outstanding individual performances from area softball players during the week.

Here are the Ames Tribune female Athlete of the Week nominees for the week of June 21-27. AmesTrib.com readers vote to determine the winner, who will be announced at the end of the week.

Miley Geise, Roland-Story

Geise threw a brilliant game for the Roland-Story softball team during a 1-0 victory over West Marshall in eight innings on June 24 at Roland.

Geise went all eight innings. She tossed a three-hit shutout with an incredible 14 strikeouts and only one walk.

Kate Nigh, Ames

Nigh's power was on full display during the week.

Nigh homered and drove in four runs during a 9-3 victory over Marshalltown as part of a Little Cyclone doubleheader sweep on June 22 at Ames. She then hit two solo homers during the second game of a doubleheader against Waterloo East on June 25, leading the Little Cyclones to a 9-1 victory.

Cypress Erickson, Collins-Maxwell

Erickson took full advantage of her tremendous speed during the Collins-Maxwell softball team's 10-0 shutout win over Colo-NESCO on June 22 at Collins.

Erickson was 2-for-3 hitting from the leadoff spot in the order. She scored three runs and stole four bases for the Royals.

Addison Good, Nevada

Good was the catalyst for the Nevada softball team's 6-4 victory over South Tama County on June 23 at Nevada.

Good went 2-for-4 with one steal for the Cubs. She also scored and drove in one run apiece.

Landrey Harris, Colo-NESCO

Harris had a solid offensive showing for the Colo-NESCO softball team during a competitive 7-4 loss at Janesville on June 25.

Harris went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and an RBI for the Royals.
