Southern Miss baseball landed a versatile player out of the transfer portal on June 28, bringing its offseason transfer portal haul to six.

East Central Community College freshman Luke Williams announced his commitment to the Golden Eagles on June 28. East Central Community College is located in Decatur, Mississippi.

In 2026, Williams pitched in 19 games and started five. He was 4-1 with two saves and an ERA of 3.49. Williams struck out 90 batters in 56.2 innings pitched, averaging 14.29 strikeouts per nine innings.

Williams has four-pitch arsenal that includes a fastball, a slider, a curveball and a changeup. His fastball topped out at 96 mph.

Williams best game of the season was on May 9 against Northwest Mississippi when he threw six innings and gave no earned runs on three hits. He struck out 10 batters and walked one in his team's loss.

Williams also played 40 games in the infield and had 32 plate appearances. He hit .313 with 10 hits and eight RBIs.

Williams played high school baseball at Clarkdale in Meridian, about 90 miles from the Southern Miss campus.

He is the second pitcher and sixth overall player to transfer to Southern Miss this offseason. He joins UAB second baseman Brady Waugh, Northwest Florida State College catcher and outfielder Brock Clayton, Grand Canyon first baseman Cannon Peery, Toledo outfielder Cade Baker and Pearl River Community College pitcher Drew Harrison in the Golden Eagles' transfer portal class.

Southern Miss players Drake Meeks, Jace Norton, McCarty English, Brooks Willoughby, Jake Neely and Camden Rodgers have all announced their intentions to transfer from the program. English committed to Arizona on June 12 and Willoughby committed to Louisiana Tech on June 22.
