Taylor Gray loses points after running out of gas in Sonoma at 2026

· Yahoo Sports

Taylor Gray suffered a heartbreaking result in the NASCAR O'Reilly Series race at Sonoma Raceway. With one lap to go, Gray ran out of gas just before the start-finish line, ruining a top-5 finish. Instead, the driver of the No. 54 car wasn't able to finish the race, and it hurt his position in the point standings.

Gray sits 12th in the point standings with a 20-point advantage over his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate, William Sawalich. If Gray was able to finish the race with enough gas, he would be sitting in 11th place with a bigger cushion over the Chase bubble.

The driver of the No. 54 car hopes to make the Chase, but he should have the speed if luck is on his side. Gray has been strong during the 2026 NASCAR season, and unfortunate luck has kept him lower in the standings. Now, Gray has to find a way to move forward and execute at Chicagoland Speedway next weekend.
