Gayton praises Bafana after elimination: ‘We lost with honour’

Gayton McKenzie has sent an uplifting message to Bafana Bafana after they were eliminated from the FIFA World Cup’s Round of 32. South Africa lost 1-0 to Canada, who scored a last-minute goal.

Thanking them for their pride and passion was Minister of Sport Gayton McKenzie.

He posted on his social media account: “Dear Bafana Bafana. We lost with honour, gents. Thank you, Bafana Bafana, for reminding us that we are indeed still a great country with huge potential.

He added: “I wanna thank you for the joy of the past few weeks, we saw again what is possible🥹”

Gayton’s comments were echoed by President Cyril Ramaphosa, who posted on his X account: “We remain justifiably proud of Bafana Bafana’s historic advancement to the last 32 of the world’s best under the transformative leadership of coach Hugo Broos”

AFRICAN COUNTRIES LEFT IN THE WORLD CUP

With Bafana Bafana eliminated from the FIFA World Cup, South Africans may choose to support eight other African countries, who are still in the tournament.

  • Ghana
  • Algeria
  • Cape Verde
