There are no guarantees in recruiting, and like horseshoes and hand grenades, close doesn’t count. No one knows what will happen with Kager Knueppel, who is on a lightning rise in the high school rankings, shooting (appropriate for that family, right) from #122 to #28 in just one update.

People are catching on, obviously.

Duke has been aware of him longer than most. Jon Scheyer’s dad, Jim, told him there was a pretty good player in Milwaukee he should look at. Scheyer, as we remember him telling the story, sort of rolled his eyes and, basically, said, sure dad.

But as you know, Knueppel came to Duke, and things worked out pretty well for him.

Will Kager follow?

He’s doing his due diligence, and he’s also said that Duke is not a lock, and Blue Devil fans should keep in mind that he’s his own man, not just Kon II.

That said, Duke’s interest seems to be ratcheting up, and you certainly can’t rule Scheyer out of a recruiting battle.

Kager is taller than Kon (6-10), and would fit nicely into Duke’s tradition of a stretch 4 forward.
