Pundit says FC Barcelona should skip on Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane

Barcelona’s reported interest in Harry Kane has sparked plenty of debate, but former France international Emmanuel Petit believes the Catalan club may be focusing on the wrong area of the pitch. While few teams in world football would turn down the opportunity to sign one of the game’s elite strikers, Petit argues that Barcelona’s biggest issues lie elsewhere.

Petit questioned whether adding Bayern Munich’s star forward should be a priority for the Spanish champions.
“Barcelona has won La Liga twice in a row, but they didn’t perform very well on the European stage. They are quite far from some of the biggest teams in Europe but they aren’t missing strikers or attacking players, they are missing proper defenders. They’re missing out on different competitions just because of their defense. If Harry Kane goes over there, I can see him doing exactly what Robert Lewandowski has done. Barcelona had many great strikers in the past,” Petit told BetVictor Live Casino.“But if I am at Barcelona, do I really need Harry Kane? Or do I need strong defenders and maybe one or two midfield players? This is something that’s been missing for Barcelona for years. It’s similar to Real Madrid, they focus on strikers. The biggest improvement they have to make is defensively and in midfield. Both clubs are making the same mistakes. I won’t say that Harry Kane would be a mistake, but if you have money to spend, the priority is not Harry Kane.”
Petit makes an interesting argument. Kane has been nothing short of sensational since arriving at Bayern Munich, consistently delivering goals, assists, and leadership. There is little doubt that he would strengthen almost any team in world football, including Barcelona.
However, the former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder believes Barcelona’s recent shortcomings in Europe cannot be solved simply by adding another superstar attacker. Instead, he sees defensive reinforcements and midfield upgrades as the areas most in need of investment.
From Bayern Munich’s perspective, the discussion remains largely hypothetical. Kane is the centerpiece of the club’s attack, and there is no indication that Bayern Munich is interested in entertaining offers for the England captain. Still, comments like these highlight the stature Kane has achieved in Munich. When clubs such as Barcelona are linked with a player, it is usually because he is among the very best in the world.
