LSU baseball loses talented freshman pitcher to transfer portal
· Yahoo Sports
LSU baseball pitcher Marcos Paz entered the transfer portal, according to a social media post from D1Baseball's Kendall Rogers. With the portal set to close at the end of the month, the talented right-hander is exploring his options.
Visit betsport24.es for more information.
Paz was a true freshman in 2026 and spent just one year with the Tigers. Paz was highly regarded upon arriving at LSU and earned six starts. He tossed 29.1 innings across 17 total appearances. Paz struggled, posting a 9.20 ERA. Paz has decent stuff, and he struck out 40, but walks were a problem with Paz issuing 27 free passes.
Paz's decision to leave LSU is somewhat of a surprise. It's rare to see a player enter the portal this late in the transfer window. Paz got plenty of chances in 2026, signaling the coaching staff liked enough about the young pitcher's skillset. Paz was presumably on track to be a high-leverage arm for LSU in 2027.
PORTAL NEWS: @LSUBaseball RHP Marcos Paz has entered the Transfer Portal. Was regarded as one of the premier freshmen entering the fall/spring. Massive arm, but did struggle in 29.1 innings for #LSU in '26. Big upside.

However, LSU returns its entire opening day starting rotation and there was no path for Paz to be a weekend starter at LSU next year. Given his talent, he'll have a chance for a bigger role with a new team. LSU will be fine, but losing a talented pitcher stings. Paz is the 8th LSU player to enter the portal.
Per 64Analytics, Mavrick Rizy is the only one of the eight LSU transfers to rank higher than Paz in the portal rankings.
