Six teams have already qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 32, before the final round of the group stage even began. The United States is one of them.

Mexico was the first team to clinch its spot, beating South Africa 2-0 and South Korea 1-0. The next day, the Americans secured their spot in the next round, beating Paraguay 4-1 and Australia 2-0.

In addition, Germany, Argentina, France and Norway also won their first two games to advance to the Round of 32.

The winner of the England vs. Ghana matchup will also advance, as well as Colombia if it defeats DR Congo.

The USMNT, which also clinched the top spot of its group, will play a third-place team from groups B, E, F, I or J. As of Tuesday, June 23, the American team would be facing Algeria in the Round of 32.

Here is the U.S.'s path to the World Cup final as it stands on June 23. The bracket is expected to change as the third round of the group stage is underway.

  • Round of 32: The United States would face Algeria, currently in third place in Group J behind Argentina and Austria.
  • Round of 16: The U.S. would face the winner of Egypt vs. Czechia
  • Quarter-finals: Winner of the R16 matchup between DR Congo/Ghana vs. Spain/Austria. Spain is the favorite to advance.

The USMNT is currently expected to be on the same side of the bracket as Egypt, Czechia, Algeria, Spain, Austria, DR Congo, Ghana, Netherlands, Morocco, South Korea, Switzerland, France, Sweden, Germany, and Scotland.
