Clark was not a popular figure at Shinnecock Hills, but it did not matter in the end as he secured a one-stroke victory.
The American went wire-to-wire to lift the trophy in New York, finishing just ahead of his compatriot Sam Burns.
And along with his various accolades for winning the US Open, Clark has now soared the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR).

After shining brightly at Shinnecock Hills, the champion has jumped from 34th place to eighth in the OWGR.
It’s a huge jump from Clark, although the 32-year-old is currently five spots behind his career-high rank of third.
Elsewhere in the top 10, the top five of Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Cameron Young, Matt Fitzpatrick and Russell Henley remains unchanged.
But Justin Rose has climbed one spot to sixth, with Tommy Fleetwood moving in the other direction.
Behind Clark, Collin Morikawa is also up one spot to ninth, while Jon Rahm has slipped two places to 10th.
Runner-up Burns has also earned a significant rise from 30th to 15th, while Tom Kim has climbed from 141st to 64th after finishing solo third.

Of course, Clark has earned much more than a mere rankings rise for his superb week at Shinnecock Hills.
He has also received 750 FedExCup points, while perhaps most significantly he has earned $4.5 million of the $22.5-million purse.
And that has taken his total career earnings on the PGA Tour to $38,426,799, helping him climb nine places to 38th in the all-time list.
The all-time top 10 remains unchanged after the US Open, with 15-time major winner Tiger Woods still top of the pile on $120,999,166.
Rory McIlroy is, however, hot on his heels with his figure of $116,106,347, with the Northern Irishman likely to overtake Woods in the near future.
