JUB JUB APPEARS IN COURT ON ASSAULT, KIDNAPPING CHARGES

On Monday, Jub Jub appeared in court, whilst out on bail, on charges of kidnapping, defeating the ends of justice and discharging a firearm in public.

As a result of his 2010 murder conviction, later overturned as culpable homicide, the court heard how the Uyajola 9/9 presenter would now face a Schedule 5 offence.

The case was postponed to 24 August.

Speaking outside the court, Maarohanye denied any wrongdoing, even going as far as to suggest foul play.

He said, “I’m shocked at the allegations. They are saying that I kidnapped my girlfriend, [who is] dating an Uber driver. I don’t know, man. I’m just complying and appearing”.

“In anything relating to me, it’s always God. Before I step into the room, God is there, and the truth shall prevail.

He continued: “So if anybody is trying to put things together, maybe formulate something of a case or whatever, then it’s fine. It is what it is. I’m not a judge, I’m not a lawyer. I’m just an accused, just like any other black man.

Jub Jub also denied having a gun.

WHAT DID HE DO?

On Sunday, 14 June, Jub Jub was arrested after an altercation with an Uber driver. He is accused of forcing the e-hailing driver into his own car and discharging a firearm in his direction.

Police Spokesperson Athlenda Mathe confirmed that the incident occurred after the TV personality confronted an e-hailing driver who had dropped off his girlfriend at his Edenvale residence in the early morning.

“The e-hailing driver managed to escape unharmed and immediately drove to a nearby police station to report the matter”, Mathe stated.

The identity of his girlfriend has not been made public.

Last week, Jub Jub was released on R5 000 bail.
