Hornets could target recent NBA champion in 2026 free agency

Although the Charlotte Hornets hold two first-round picks (Nos. 14 and 18), NBA insiders don't expect the Charlotte Hornets to trade up. Specifically Jake Fischer of the Stein Line reported, "I haven't heard that the Charlotte Hornets are looking to move up."

Holding on to their selections would give a young Hornets team another chance to add both depth and potential in a loaded 2026 draft class after a ninth-place finish in the Eastern Conference last year. Additionally, Fischer suspects the Hornets could look to add another big man via free agency. "There really aren't that many other bigs so available on the trade market right now. Think they'll be a player for Mitchell Robinson in FA."
While Domantas Sabonis, Nic Claxton and Isaiah Stewart could be trade possibilities, Robinson would be a solid pickup for Charlotte at the right price. In a championship season with the New York Knicks last year, he averaged 5.7 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 19.6 minutes per game off the bench, earning him an eighth-place finish in Sixth Man of the Year voting.
