Dwight Howard Wants the 2020 Lakers to Copy the Cavaliers’ Reunion
Last summer, LeBron James developed a new fascination with golf. Throughout the summer and at various points of the season as well, the four-time MVP shared clips of himself on the course.
This year, he was joined by a large chunk of the 2016 crew. From Richard Jefferson to J.R. Smith, he was flanked by some of the most important members of the roster.
Understandably, it was a celebration of their iconic postseason run.
Now, Dwight Howard wants to jump in on the fun.
On the brink of being out of the league, he was brought back to the Lakers in 2019 with a ton of caveats.
Proving to be a worthwhile addition, he played a key role in securing the franchise’s 17th banner.
Unlike the 2016 Cavaliers, though, the Lakers were a far more controversial unit. Given the bubble’s idiosyncrasies, many people jumped to add an asterisk to their title.
And with the pandemic, the team didn’t even get a proper celebration.
As a result, Howard wrote on X, “We need to do a 2020 lakers vacation since we didn’t get a parade.”
One of the most dominant but underrated teams in recent memory, Los Angeles never lost all season when they held a lead after three quarters.
Dominating the postseason as well, they went through the entire Western Conference without losing more than one game in any series.
Even the Miami Heat, who were a surprise through the East, were only able to push them to six games.
But the dual threat of James and Anthony Davis, combined with a team built on their defensive identity, was enough to give the former his fourth NBA championship. Howard, who served as the perfect mercenary and backup center, played a huge role, especially in containing Nikola Jokić.
A dominant force in the 2000s, he put the perfect bow on his career with the championship, reinventing his image completely.
