After their second consecutive trophyless season, Real Madrid were expected to see several changes in their team before the start of the 2026-27 season. The squad itself has seen important changes, but the one area of the team where there has been almost a total revolution has been the defense. The Merengue side has already secured three new players for its backline, i.e., Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries, and Marc Cucurella, while also seeing two players depart, i.e., Dani Carvajal and David Alaba.
More arrivals and departures can come as the summer transfer window is still yet to be opened, but one player whose continuity is now confirmed is the center-back Antonio Rudiger. As MARCA has reported, Real Madrid have officially announced the renewal of the German defender for one more season, till 2027.
Rudiger’s previous contract was set to expire on 30th June, and he had been engaged in these renewal talks with the Merengue club for several months now. In fact, these talks began in November 2025, but had to be put on hold because of his injury. Once he got back on the pitch at the start of this year, talks resumed, and continued in an atmosphere of complete harmony.
A formal offer from the club was made in March, and an agreement was reached in May. The excitement of playing under Jose Mourinho further helped the center-back make his mind about his continuity at the white club.
For now, Antonio Rudiger feels fully recovered from his physical problems, and keen to put the disappointments of the last two season behind him. His continuity was also be great news for Jose Mourinho himself, as his skillset, mentality, experience, and leadership would all be very welcome for the new Real Madrid manager.
