SPEARFISH — A three-way tie atop the championship division standings after 36 holes was decided by a single playoff hole at the South Dakota Golf Association Two-Man Amateur Championship, hosted June 13-14 at Elkhorn Ridge Golf Club.
With a birdie on the first playoff hole, brothers Bob and Colby West, of Watertown, laid claim to the title, with the Sioux Falls duos of Ryan Jansa and Tom Carlson, as well as Ryan Trasamar and Charlie Jacobson, tying for second place. All three pairs had shot 36-hole totals of 8-under-par 136 for the two-day tournament.
The tournament format included 18 holes of four-ball (play own ball, count best player's score) during the opening round and Chapman rules (both players tee off, hit each other's drive, choose one ball and alternate strokes) during the second round.
Mitchell's Jeff Meyerink and Brandon Sigmund shot a 1-under 143 for the tournament and finished in 10th place. Another Mitchell duo, Aaron Hieb and Asher Dannenbring, were tied for 26th place in the championship division at 5-over 149.
The regular division was also decided via a three-way playoff, as Stugis' Tice McVay and Bradley Karl birdied the first playoff hole to fend off Brennan Thompson (Sioux Falls) and Zac Pruner (Jefferson), as well as Bennett Munger (Sioux Falls) and Pete Wodzinski (Harrisburg). All three pairs had shot a 5-over 149 through 36 holes.
