Weather forecast for EVERY province on Youth Day

· The South African

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned that a cut-off low-pressure system is expected to bring windy, cooler and unsettled weather conditions to several parts of the country from Tuesday afternoon through to Saturday.

According to SAWS, the weather system, associated with a surface high-pressure system, will initially affect the western regions before gradually moving eastward during the week.

Strong winds, cooler temperatures

“As the system moves eastwards, it is expected to spread these conditions to the Free State and the western half of the Eastern Cape. By Friday and Saturday, it may begin to affect the North West, Gauteng and neighbouring provinces,” the weather service said.

Residents in affected areas can expect a combination of strong winds, cooler temperatures and generally unsettled weather conditions as the system progresses across the country.

SAWS has indicated that it will continue to monitor the development of the weather system and will issue further updates and warnings where necessary.

Exercise caution

Motorists have been urged to exercise caution, particularly in areas experiencing strong winds.

“Take extra care on the roads – strong winds may cause dangerous driving conditions,” the weather service warned.

The weather service also highlighted an elevated risk of veld fires across the western interior, where strong to fresh winds could contribute to the rapid spread of fires.

Authorities are encouraging the public to stay informed of the latest forecasts and heed any weather-related warnings issued over the coming days as the cut-off low moves across South Africa.
