Every time a new update is released, it seems like at least a handful of Tiger commitments end up moving down the board. This week’s 247Sports update was no different.

There were certainly some wins for Clemson. Jamarin Simmons continued his rise by earning a fifth star and moving into the top 30 nationally. Quarterback Kharim Hughley gained a few spots at his position, Harrison Luke moved up among safeties, and JJ Brown picked up a fourth star.

However, much of the conversation centered on the prospects who saw their rankings fall.

The most notable drop belonged to defensive end Santana Harvey. Once comfortably inside the national top 150, Harvey now sits at No. 214 overall after an 80-spot decline. The move drew plenty of attention, including from Harvey himself.

“Never will I ever need a ranking to tell me how good I am or predict my future,” Harvey wrote on social media following the update.

Harvey wasn’t the only Clemson pledge to head in the wrong direction. Bryce Kish lost significant ground in the national rankings, Max Brown took a sizable tumble among linebackers, and several other Clemson commits saw smaller declines at their respective positions.

That’s what makes this update feel so familiar.

For years, Clemson fans have pointed to what appears to be a recurring trend. A prospect commits to the Tigers and, before long, his ranking begins to slide. It has happened often enough across multiple recruiting cycles that it is now one of the most discussed topics whenever new rankings are released.

Maybe it’s because committed players attend fewer camps. Maybe evaluators simply like other prospects more as the cycle unfolds. Whatever the explanation, the pattern continues to generate debate.

The irony is that Clemson’s class remains in excellent shape overall. Simmons’ rise helped offset some of the losses, and the Tigers still hold a top-10 recruiting class nationally.

One prospect Clemson is still pursuing moved sharply in the opposite direction. Linebacker Sean Fox surged more than 80 spots in the latest update and is now one of the highest-ranked players at his position.

So while some movement up and down is expected this time of year, the latest rankings once again gave Clemson fans something they’ve become accustomed to seeing: commitments falling after they pledge to the Tigers.
