Myles Garrett named to TIME's 100 Most Influential People in Sports list

Myles Garrett is one of the greatest players of this generation, putting together a resume already that’s deserving of a spot in the Hall of Fame. And he’s still only 30 years old, which gives him a long runway to become one of the best of all time.

Heading into the 2026 season, TIME Magazine sees him as one of the most influential people not only in the NFL, but in all of sports. Garrett was selected to TIME’s 100 Most Influential People in Sports list following his historic 23-sack season in 2025, setting the single-season record.
On his record-breaking 23rd sack of the 2025 NFL season, Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett crossed the line of scrimmage in 0.23 seconds, the fastest get-off time by any player on any sack last year. “Absolute alien,” ESPN analyst Mina Kimes posted on X after Garrett brought down Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow to set the single-season mark. Garrett’s moment came in the last week of a 17-game season, whereas previous record holders Michael Strahan got 22.5 sacks with the New York Giants in 16 games, and T.J. Watt of the Pittsburgh Steelers tied that total in 15. But Garrett was the most efficient terror of this trio: he reached 23 sacks in just 540 opponent pass plays; Strahan needed 567, and Watt 557. No asterisk necessary: Garrett’s strength, agility, and smarts give quarterbacks fits. A few more monster years could put Garrett within range of Bruce Smith’s all-time career sack record of 200; Garrett will enter his 10th NFL season with 125.5 sacks. And now that he’s leaving Cleveland—on June 1, the Browns traded Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams for two-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Jared Verse and multiple draft picks—Garrett may finally sniff a Super Bowl.
The scariest part is Garrett’s own record may not be safe from himself. He’s now playing for a Rams team that is considered the Super Bowl favorite, a team that will play with a lead far more often than the Browns did last year.
And when your team is playing with a lead, the opponent is forced to throw the ball more often, thus increasing Garrett’s chances to rush the passer. If he can stay healthy, 25 sacks could be within reach this year.
