Red River athletes receive all-state honors

Jun. 8—GRAND FORKS — Six Grand Forks Red River athletes received North Dakota all-state honors recently, including softball player Jocelyn Berg, who was also named the state's Gatorade Player of the Year for the second year in a row.

The all-state teams are selected by the North Dakota High School Coaches Association.
In baseball, Red River's Alex Seaver was named to the all-state team. He hit .390 with 28 hits (seven extra-base hits) this past season. On the mound, the senior was 6-2 in 43.1 innings pitched with 65 strikeouts and a 2.58 ERA.
Seaver, who has committed to play college baseball at Iowa Central junior college, was all-EDC and all-state in both 2025 and 2026. He was the EDC Senior Athlete of the Year this spring.
Devils Lake's Mason Palmer was also named all-state in baseball.
In soccer, sisters Taylor and Reagan Hodny were named to the all-state team, alongside teammate Addi Kotrba.
Taylor finished the year with 21 goals and 12 assists, while Reagan had nine goals and seven assists during their sophomore seasons. Kotrba, a senior defender, had two goals.
In softball, Berg, a junior, and senior Ella Speidel were named all-state.
Berg, a 5-foot-10 right-handed pitcher and first baseman, led the Roughriders with a .587 average, 11 doubles and six home runs.
On the mound, she threw 99.1 innings with a 7-2 record. She struck out 189 and walked 27. Berg, who has re-opened her recruitment after originally committing to UAB, finished with a 1.48 ERA.
Speidel, who has signed to play college golf at UND, hit .500 with eight doubles and two triples.
