NBA Insider Floats Interesting Anthony Edwards Theory Amid Karl-Anthony Towns’ Finals Run

· Yahoo Sports

Karl-Anthony Towns’ success with the New York Knicks continues to make it more difficult for the Minnesota Timberwolves to ignore any debate regarding the impact of the deal between the two teams. The Timberwolves said goodbye to their beloved star last year. Now he is four wins away from delivering a championship in New York.

That reality has created a fresh conversation around Anthony Edwards and the direction of the Timberwolves. Not because Edwards has publicly complained, but because the pressure to build a title contender around a 24-year-old superstar only grows stronger when a former teammate is thriving on basketball’s biggest stage.

Brian Windhorst Raises Questions About Anthony Edwards’ Long-Term View Of Minnesota’s Roster

Speaking on ESPN’s First Take, NBA insider Brian Windhorst suggested the Timberwolves could face important questions this offseason regarding Edwards’ satisfaction with the roster around him. The comments quickly gained traction across NBA circles as Towns continues his impressive Finals run with the Knicks.

“Going forward after this series, the Minnesota Timberwolves’ future is in question somewhat because of what Ant feels about the roster, and I wonder if KAT was still there, if he did.”

Windhorst wasn’t reporting that Edwards wants out of the Timberwolves. The reality is that every small team has to deal with this problem. The best players want to win championships. It gets harder to wait when they do not get the chance to do that. The timing is something we cannot ignore. Edwards has become one of the young players in the league, but he has not made it to the NBA Finals yet. On the other hand, Towns is playing some of the best basketball of his career in the playoffs after joining the Knicks in a big trade last year.

For people who like the Timberwolves, this is where things get emotional. Towns played for the Timberwolves for nine years. Helped make the team good again, with Edwards. During these playoffs, he has become an even better player. He can shoot the ball really well, and he is a big part of the Knicks’ offense. In the Knicks’ first 14 playoff games, Towns has been shooting the ball well.

His success makes us think about what could have been. It is not that the trade was easy. The team had to make a hard decision because of financial problems. The Timberwolves had to trade Towns. Now we see how well he is doing with the Knicks. This makes people wonder what would have happened if the Timberwolves had kept Towns and played him with Edwards. Keeping Towns on a massive long-term deal would have pushed the organization deeper into the NBA’s restrictive salary cap penalties and limited roster flexibility.

That does not mean the Timberwolves are satisfied with where things stand. Multiple reports and league observers expect the Timberwolves to be aggressive this offseason in their search for another high-level running mate alongside Edwards. The front office understands the stakes. Edwards has improved every season since entering the league and is coming off a career-best scoring campaign.

What has often been lost in the conversation is the relationship between Edwards and Towns. Despite the trade, the two remain close. Towns has repeatedly supported Edwards publicly, including sending him encouragement following an injury scare earlier this year.

Still, the NBA rarely waits for sentiment. While Windhorst’s comments weren’t necessarily a red flag, they were certainly a wake-up call. It is time for Edwards to move into the part of his NBA career when winning isn’t a goal, but it is expected, and as Towns seeks to win a ring with the Knicks, the Timberwolves will have to deal with an important offseason.
