WIAA State Championships

MADISON - The WIAA boys individual state tennis tournament came to a close June 6 at Nielsen Tennis Stadium and it could not have gone better for Notre Dame Academy’s Alex Thomas.

Thomas, the No. 1 seed, defeated fifth-seeded Colin Meixl of Kimberly 6-1, 7-5 in the semifinals and then took down Middleton’s Alexander Bo 6-2, 6-4 in the championship match to win the Division 1 individual state title.

Thomas improves his record to 21-0 heading into the WIAA state team tournament.

Thomas finished third at the tournament in 2025, while Bo finished second last year.

Meixl, after dropping his semifinal match to Thomas, faced Andrey Semin of Brookfield Central in the third-place match and lost 2-6, 3-6.

Appleton West’s Truman Vogel, who lost his bid for a state title in Friday’s quarterfinals, defaulted his next match to David Klaas of Madison Memorial. Klass went on to lose to Grant Schaefer 6-2, 6-3 in the fifth-place match.

In Division 1 doubles, the title went to Jake Zheng and Ryker Koch of Brookfield East, who defeated Miles Seder and Chase Larson of Menomonee Falls 6-2, 6-3. Eddie Schoyer and Cole Wurtzbacher of Brookfield Academy defeated Sverre Ezra Roang and Hunter Shadman of Madison West 3-6, 6-3, 10-6 for third place.

Xavier’s Kojo Norman was in the running for a state title in Division 2 heading into the semifinals but dropped his semifinal contest to Oliver Milleman of Catholic Memorial 6-1, 6-2.

Norman then lost to Maddox Bradfield of Madison Day Country 7-5, 6-3 in the third-place match.

Teddy Busateri of East Troy won the Division 2 singles title ,beating Milleman 6-4, 6-0. Busateri had advanced to the championship match with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Bradfield.

In Division 2 doubles, Catholic Memorial’s Finn Milleman and Brady Latus defeated Gianni Frausto and Cavin Baltus of Plymouth 6-2, 6-7 (5), 10-8 in the championship match.

In the third-place match, Mac Yackee and Johnathan Buye of Edgewood defeated Andrew Joeckel and Max Hemann of Shorewood 6-1, 6-2.

GIRLS SOCCER

Division 1 regional finals

Kimberly 2, Bay Port 0

KIMBERLY - The Papermakers improved to 20-1 with the blanking of the Pirates in the Division 1 regional final.

The victory advances Kimberly to the sectional semifinal on their home turf where they will face a familiar foe in Appleton North.

Vada Sousek scored both of Kimberly’s goals with Sadie Strong assisting on one goal and Kennedy Ebben assisting on the other.

Bee Brockert had eight saves in goal for the Papermakers.

Bay Port finishes its season with a record of 13-5-1.

Appleton North 2, De Pere 2

APPLETON - The No. 2 seed Lightning prevailed 3-1 in a shootout to defeat the Redbirds after the two teams played through regulation and overtime finishing in a 2-2 deadlock.

The Lightning is now 19-2 and will play at Kimberly against the Papermakers in the sectional semifinal on June 11.

De Pere finishes its season with a record of 12-4-3.

Division 2 regional finals

Brookfield Central 7, Appleton West 0

BROOKFIELD - The Lancers defended their top seed successfully by holding the Terrors scoreless to advance to the sectional semifinal.

Appleton West ends its season with a record of 6-10-3.

Brookfield Central is now 12-3 and will host Plymouth in a sectional semifinal.

Pulaski 3, Ashwaubenon 1

PULASKI - It’s on to the sectional semifinal for the Red Raiders following their regional final win over the Jaguars.

Pulaski, which goes to 10-5-5 with the win, will play at second-seeded Cedarburg on June 11.

The Red Raiders are 5-0-3 in their last eight games.

Ashwaubenon closes its season with a record of 12-8-3.

Division 3 regional finals

Luxemburg-Casco 2, Freedom 0

FREEDOM - The Spartans blanked the Irish to improve to 14-5-2 on the season.

Luxemburg-Casco, the No. 5 seed, will face Kiel, an 8-0 winner over Waupun, at Kiel in a sectional semifinal on June 11.

Emi Kuhn scored both goals for the Spartans in the win. Teagan Gunderson made six saves in goal for Luxemburg-Casco.

Goalie Sophia Johnson made six saves for Freedom, which ends its season with a record of 13-4.

Notre Dame 9, Fox Valley Lutheran 0

GREEN BAY - The Tritons, who are seeded No. 2, dominated the Foxes and advanced to Thursday’s sectional semifinal.

Notre Dame is now 15-5-3 and will host Winneconne in a sectional semifinal June 11.

Notre Dame is 6-1-2 in its last nine matches.

Fox Valley Lutheran finished its season with a record of 6-13-2.

Winneconne 3, Seymour 0

WINNECONNE - The Wolves will face Notre Dame on June 11 in the sectional semifinal after defeating the Thunder in the regional final.

Winneconne is now 19-2 and has shut out nine of its last 11 opponents.

Seymour finishes with a record of 10-7-2.

Division 4 regional finals

Xavier 6, Wrightstown 2

APPLETON - The Hawks’ regional final win over the Tigers improved its record to 19-1 on the season.

The Hawks, who are 6-1-0 in their last seven games and have outscored their opponents 45-4, will play in the sectional semifinal June 11 at home against Lourdes Academy/Valley Christian.

Wrightstown’s season draws to a close with a record of 8-10-1.

Lourdes Academy/Valley Christian 2, Sturgeon Bay 1

OSHKOSH - The Knights brought the Clippers’ season to a close with the regional final win.

Sturgeon Bay ends its season with a 14-7-3 record.

Lourdes Academy/Valley Christian (11-4-2) will play its sectional semifinal game June 11 in Appleton against No. 1 seed Xavier.

Providence Academy/NEW Lutheran 6, Amherst 0

GREEN BAY - The Paladins upped their record to 13-2-1 with the win over the Falcons.

Providence Academy/NEW Lutheran will play its sectional semifinal game June 11 at second-seeded Howards Grove, which advanced with a 4-0 win over New Holstein.
