Zverev battled through a tough opening set against No. 26 seed Jakub Mensik, edging it 7-5, and then carried his momentum into a dominant 6-2 second set. Just when it appeared Zverev had the match under control and Mensik was forced to take a medical timeout, the young Czech mounted an impressive comeback to capture the third set 6-3. However, after a hard-fought fourth set, Zverev regained his composure, ultimately proving too much for Mensik as he secured the first spot in the finals and moved one step closer to his maiden Grand Slam title.
In a stunning turn of events, Flavio Cobolli advanced to his first Grand Slam final after Matteo Arnaldi was forced to withdraw from their semifinal match due to a viral illness less than an hour before he was set to play. Arnaldi explained in a press conference on Friday, June 5 that he didn't know what caused the illness but after a sleepless night spent vomiting, had no choice but to end his bid for the major title.
