Josh Sweat explains his absence from OTAs, offseason workouts

· Yahoo Sports

There has been a lot of chatter this offseason about Arizona Cardinals linebacker Josh Sweat. A year after signing a four-year contract worth $76.4 million and registering a career-high 12 sacks, he has been absent from offseason workouts, something he did a bit last offseason.

But there have been rumors that he requested a trade. While it has been reported that the Cardinals will not trade Sweat, another report indicates he is not happy, for whatever reason.

As for his absence from the voluntary offseason program? It might be as simple as doing his own thing.

AZCardinal.com's Darren Urban noted a comment Sweat made on his Instagram account that said, "I do my own training every offseason. It's nothing new..."

While this might be true, it doesn't explain the other rumors — is he unhappy? Did he request to be traded after Jonathan Gannon was fired?

Mandatory minicamp is next week. Now, if his absence has only been training-related, he should be present and on the field. It won't answer all the questions, but it should at least quiet concerns that seem to be out there.
