Why LeBron James’ best friend sees Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen’s rings as the ‘same’
· Yahoo Sports
Rich Paul’s Scottie Pippen argument is not really about taking six rings away from Michael Jordan, it is about rejecting the way fans rank help.

The LeBron James associate and Klutch Sports founder jumped straight into one of basketball’s oldest fights.
Jordan is usually treated as the clear leading man of the Chicago Bulls dynasty, but Paul argued that Pippen’s role should not be downgraded just because he accepted the No. 2 label.

Dunk Central shared Paul’s comments from a debate about whether Pippen’s six championships should be valued differently from Jordan’s.
“I think Scottie’s rings are the same as Michael Jordan’s. He was the most impactful player on the team. If you unplug Scottie Pippen off that team, Jordan is 0-6.”
That is the kind of line built to annoy Jordan fans because it sounds like Paul is saying Pippen mattered more than the greatest scorer of the era.
But his deeper point is about team construction. Paul is arguing that Pippen’s defense, playmaking, transition game and willingness to live inside Jordan’s shadow made those Bulls teams work.
Why the Scottie Pippen argument still hits a nerve
The reason this debate never dies is that both sides have ammunition.
Jordan won six Finals MVPs and became the face of a dynasty. Pippen was a seven-time All-Star, a three-time All-NBA First Team selection and one of the best wing defenders the league has seen.
When Jordan stepped away in 1993, Pippen led Chicago to 55 wins in 1993-94 and finished third in MVP voting. That season remains the strongest proof that he was not just riding along.
Still, saying Jordan would be “0-6” without him is more argument than fact. The Bulls would have needed another elite star, but nobody can prove exactly how many titles Jordan would have won with a different partner.
Rich Paul has pushed this Jordan debate before
Paul’s comment also fits his wider defense of LeBron’s legacy.
He pushed back last year after Michael Jordan’s longtime agent David Falk argued Jordan could have won far more if he had built teams the way LeBron did.
Paul’s counter has been consistent. Jordan had great help too, but that help is often framed as organic greatness while LeBron’s help is treated like a shortcut.
That is why the Pippen line matters. Paul is really saying the “sidekick” label has always been too convenient, especially when it is used to protect one legend and downgrade another.
