That's not how the center, quarterback exchange works — but Schlottmann isn't talking about catching footballs.
He's talking attitude.
"(Ward) is super fiery, which is fun and it's contagious," Schlottmann said at Vanderbilt Health Football Center on May 29.
Schlottmann, who signed a two-year, $7 million deal with the Titans in the offseason, said Ward's infectious personality is starting to spread, especially in the huddle.
"You're on the field, he's fired up to be there, he's fired up to compete. Trying to beat the defense, trying to score touchdowns. That's super contagious to everybody in the huddle, it's fun to be around," Schlottmann said.
Schlottmann signed with the Titans after two seasons with the New York Giants. While there, he worked under former coach Brian Daboll, who now the offensive coordinator with the Titans. An undrafted lineman out of TCU, Schlottmann also played two seasons with the Minnesota Vikings (2022-2023) and three seasons with the Denver Broncos (2019-2022).
One of his reasons for signing with Tennessee was his experience with Daboll in New York.
"For me and the guys coming from New York, it's a fun offense to play in," Schlottmann said. "When it's working, it's working. We can be fast and we can put a lot of pressure on the defenses."
In all, five players followed Daboll to the Titans after playing out their contracts with the Giants: Schlottmann, wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson, cornerback Cor'Dale Flott, wide receiver Courtney Jackson, and tight end Daniel Bellinger.
"Knowing the system, being able to help the other guys learn it and kind of teach them the intricacies of it helps," Schlottmann said. "It's a fun offense to play in."
Schlottmann, 30, is the most experienced center on the Titans' roster at minicamp. He's played in 85 games (18 starts) over seven seasons, including all 17 games for the Giants in 2025. There's also fourth-year center Trey Hill, who started three games for Cincinnati in 2021, but did not play in 2025, and rookie Pat Coogan, the Titans' sixth-round pick out of Indiana.
Both of last year's centers, Lloyd Cushenberry and Corey Levin, have moved on from Tennessee: Cushenberry signed with Buffalo and Levin signed with Atlanta.
